Good afternoon friends We will be closed from July 22nd through August 5th for summer break. I realize this cuts it close for back to school orders so please make sure you get those orders in within the next two weeks! Backpacks are HOT as are the notebooks, lunch bags & binders! Hope to see more orders flowing in for those in the coming weeks ahead.

I will leave the website open but PLEASE BE AWARE that no order will be processed from Friday the 22nd of July through Friday the 5th of August.

In the summer time…

yes, we are smack-dab in the middle of summer & I can’t help feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment. what else is new? well, for starters, I have decided that I just can’t be too busy so I have added a couple more job descriptions to my name – more on that in another post… but just so you know, I have been SWAMPED with busy-ness around here. lagniappe related & not…

with the kids home brings a plethora of situations brewing all at once. since the let out of school in late-may, we have thrusted ourselves into one of the busiest summers to date. softball, baseball, tball, cabbage ball, more tball, tumbling, dancing, play dates, seminars, work-stuff… to say the least, I have not stopped… not for a few minutes! every night we’ve had one thing or another to attend, which requires me to run & run & run all over town – to the demise of my poor car… started overheating! it’s telling me, “STOP!!!!” but wait, I need that car – to get to DISNEY! we are driving this summer (which we have never done) so this should be interesting. the kids have no earthly idea what we’re up to – they beg us to go – so this should be quite the surprise!

things are moving & shaking around here… and about to be moving & shaking with my business. I am making some MAJOR changes (for the better, hopefully) in an attempt to counteract the volume of business that continues to come my way. orders will begin to be produced much quicker & more efficiently with these changes so please understand I may be a little harder to tie down while I transition. the addition of many new items since the beginning of 2011 has been a fun experience! I love seeing what you like & what you’re getting tired of … this has helped tremendously in making some key decisions

you may or may not see some of your “options” changing in ways you may or may not like. those who have shopped w me before know I am a pleaser so things will still be very custom – just maybe in a few different ways. I am still ironing out the details…

just wanted to touch base since we are about half way through our summer. I look forward to a very busy holiday season approaching & please make note of the upcoming show schedule that should be coming out soon!

While we are in the midst of another busy holiday rush, I thought I would take this time to thank all of my customers for keeping this business afloat & busy! So much is going on around here! We have been working very hard to introduce many new items as well as freshening up some old favorites. It truly means the world to me that you’ve continued to support my growing business all these years & I want to be sure I continue to thank you for that support.

I also wanted to bring up a little bit about what goes on behind the scenes here at Laurie’s Lagniappe to bring to light some of the “issues” we’ve been hearing about from a few of our customers. We receive anywhere between 5 & 70 orders a day – this can fluctuate season to season, day to day and right now, since we are approaching Easter, we are getting a large volume of orders. Production can range from 5-15 business days for most items. While we would like to turn things around much quicker than that, time does not always allow.

Our business is fully custom. You have the luxury of picking out a FULLY CUSTOMIZED item which, in most cases, is less expensive than the “off the shelf” items you find in your local gift or stationery shop. We rarely charge for custom requests (which we get around 10 custom invite requests per week) & have been told time & time again how well-executed our designs are. We hand create every single item that comes our way! On each order, there are different patterns, fonts & icons… & then move on to the next order which has a completely different set of combinations. This concept was developed at the inception of our business & is what sets us apart from our competition. This process takes TIME.

Think of it this way… if you walked in to a local deli & placed 50 separate orders, each order is paid separately, has a different item in each order, different sides, different toppings, some orders have three items, some have one, some 15. Can you imagine how long this would take the kitchen to prepare? Would you fuss at the checkout guy if it was taking too long?

This business has been SO rewarding in so many ways. One thing I have learned however is that fussy customers will be there – they will always want their voices heard. 99.9% of the time, they are right & we will ALWAYS go the extra mile to make up for whatever mistakes are made or if timeliness of an order is an issue. Sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that is thrown our way. We do our VERY best to get to every single request, every single email (today alone, I received 70 – just counted!) & nearly every one has been answered. We have filled over 50 orders today (2 buckets full outside plus 5 packages to the USPS) & will continue to work tirelessly until it is all DONE!

We are a two person operation – we are human – we are mothers – we are wives – WE LOVE OUR CUSTOMERS - we love our jobs – we are happy to do what we do every day – we are BLESSED – we are excited to hear that “ding” from the email inbox when a new order comes in – we are MOTIVATED!

Custom Invitations… from here on out!

CUSTOM INVITATION GUIDELINES, EFFECTIVE MARCH 23, 2011

Due to an overwhelming request to do custom invitation designs, I have come up with some guidelines that are effective immediately.

In order to keep things fair for everyone who requests an invite design, all custom requests will be treated as an order & printed & filed in chronological order in queue with all orders that come in via the website.
All custom invitations require a 30 PIECE MINIMUM. Anything below 30 invitations (small or large, paper or photo) will be billed a $35 design fee PRIOR to a proof being emailed.
Proofs will be emailed on ALL custom designs within a week of sending your request (this may change in heavy volume times).
If you are on a tight deadline to get your invites out, a $25 rush fee can be added to speed proofing & production
PLEASE ALLOW 2 WEEKS FOR CUSTOM INVITATION DESIGNS, PROOFS & PRODUCTION (this is 10 business days - not including Sat, Sun)

Pricing is as follows for invitations:

Small Flat Invite $.80 each (30 minimum or $35 design fee is billed)
Large Flat Invite $1.50 each (30 minimum or $35 design fee is billed)
Photo Card Invites 4x6 $.70 each with envelopes
Photo Card Invites 5x7 $.95 each with envelopes
$25 design fee for existing designs if you choose to print them yourself

“Thou Shall Not Steal” an excerpt from “The Pink Clutch”

When I decided to check my blogroll this evening, it came after an entire day of not being “hooked up” to the internet. I have had a computer crash today (which I was able to fix, thank the Lord) and a wireless adapter go out. In all, my day has really been the pits! So I finally am “back up” and I click on one of my favorite blogs, “The Pink Clutch.” I admit, I have been inspired by the preppy’ness of her blog… all the pink & green, the adorable monogrammed stuff… love it all! I have been tempted to order so much stuff but I have resisted… I have no clue how I found her but since I did, I have loved following her business. She, too has a special needs boy & IS NOT AFRAID TO SHARE her experiences with the world.

All of you who know me know of my recent struggles with a former-retail partner of mine. Some of you may not so I will share. I have been ripped off, to put it nicely. All of the hard work that I have put in to this business has been copied from top to bottom. This person was a semi-friend who owned two boutiques in New Orleans. She closed her businesses due to the flailing economy but was very enthused to sell my goods when she was in business. I learned of her starting her own business through the grapevine (imagine that) and since then, I haven’t quite been the same. There are days when I feel like I want to call the police :) I feel like someone has taken part of me… it sounds crazy but entirely true! Literally, when I launch a new product, there they are… launching the EXACT SAME PRODUCT marketed in the EXACT SAME WAY. It’s just pathetic, really. I understand that none of what I do is rocket-science nor am I some master inventor of personalization, but really? Do you not have one original bone in your body?? Come on…

So when I saw this post today, I just had to repost it for all of you to see. Now I want to be clear when I say that I know I don’t have the “corner on the market” as she so eloquently told me when I confronted her about her new venture, but I do believe that hard work should be respected. Perhaps this post from The Pink Clutch will shed some light on what I have been going through. Please do read & share your thoughts!

As anticipated, Cyber Monday & early Tuesday blew me away! I am officially busting at the seams with orders & am not able to take anything else guaranteed for Christmas delivery. I know this is a couple days earlier than I had originally planned but that’s the way it goes sometimes!!

Just a brief update on production…

Since the HUGE 50% off Sale in honor of reaching 500 “likes” on Facebook, things have been moving a little slower than usual around here. Please understand that I have over 100 outstanding orders at the moment waiting to be filled. I am filling as fast as I can. All “special orders” have been placed as of 48 hours after the order was received so those items are in the hands of my contract factories. I will be shipping them out as soon as they arrive! Please be patient as I plug away at all of this. SO GRATEFUL for everything :)

With that said, I am going to have to put a cease to custom invitation requests right now. This does not include emails/inquiries I have received thus far. Those are fine. Just going forward, I am stuck & am not able to take on any other designs. I will post when my head is above water ;)

I just got this email in my inbox. Each cube represents a teaspoonful. Can you believe? Great way to display what we’re putting into our bodies & the bodies of our children. Lord knows I love my diet coke, coffee and other sugary treats but I have never seen this type of analogy & now it’s making my head spin… You?

Skittles are my kids all time faves… maybe that’s why all three looked like this yesterday…

On a lighter note, all notepads will now be offered in more than one size! Check them out!! These have been great back to school teacher gifts this year. I sent an 8.5 x 11 pad for each of Emma Kate’s teachers paired with a pen… they LOVED them! The patterned top pads are the most popular :)

My family & I took a brief trip to the Caribe Resort in Orange Beach, AL. What a fun place! We had a blast!!

Happy end of summer, everyone :( Hope you all had a wonderful one… our biggest bonus was a successful heart surgery for my girl!! YAY!!!! Finally after 8 long years, my baby girl is cured of her heart condition. Praise the Lord!

& a little product plug… what a great gift this makes for that 6-12 year old boy… a Who Dat pillowcase & water bottle set. Perfect!

Now for the pardon – I am swamped with orders that came in over the break. Please be patient as I work hard at getting caught up!

I have been working non-stop for the past two weeks trying to get all of these back to school orders printed, packed & shipped… thanks SOOO much for all the business :) It’s been keeping me crazy busy & for that I am SOOO grateful!!!

All of the orders placed BEFORE July 28th have been printed, processed & shipped as of today. All other orders will be processed after my store closure which ends on August 13th. Gotta take care of some things here & then I will be back in full swing come August 13th!

Okay since Emma Kate’s surgery was a HUGE success… I now have time to stay open a little longer before the kids head back to school!!! So… if you are in the New Orleans area & want to come see the goodies up front & personal, you can do so at the Helen Brett show (a.k.a. “The Jewelry Show”) this Saturday, July 31st through Tuesday, August 3rd! I am in booth 355 & will have Melissa & Doug toys for cash & carry as well as personalized goods for order taking only! I will not be personalizing on site due to last minute preparations… Show hours are 10am till 6pm Sat, Sun & Mon & Tues 10am till 3pm.

I will have all of the new stuff there on display if you need to come get a peek!

these are a less-expensive alternative to the white original printed bottles on the site. they're 25 ounces and have a waterproof label on them. Which leads to this post! I have a few very exciting new things to share with you today… Firstly, the website has been updated to reflect the same design as the new blog design

Secondly, I added the Mini Me Tabletop collection… I have been trying to add the Mini Me selections to more products but I’ve been a bit slow with it… sorry!

and Lastly (and most exciting!) I have made the site a little more “iPhone-friendly”. Meaning, when you view the site on your iPhone, it will already be zoomed to where you can actually see the text. It’s not perfect – I would have to host an entirely new site to get it to be totally iPhone compatible but consider it just a little “tweak” to what you were getting before. This is what you’ll see when viewing in regular vertical format

It looks even better when viewed in the landscape position.

and the really neat part is, you can save the site as an icon on your iPhone home screen! It’s so easy to do… See that little + (plus) sign in the image above? Click that & this is what you will see…

Click “Add to Home Screen” & you will see this next:

You can type in whatever you want in the box but the default is “welcome to…”

Then you go to your home screen & see this!

Neat, huh?! BTW, you can do this w/any website out there… this was new to me today! Oh & I have no clue what half of these aps are… my kids go to town on this phone!!

So, there you have it… new stuff for today!

On another note I will be taking a brief pause in business coming up & wanted to let you all know ahead of time. I will be closed from July 28th – August 13th in preparation for Emma Kate’s 2nd heart procedure as well as the start of school.

I know it’s kind of a long break (2 1/2 weeks!) but I need this time to be there for her, to help get the kiddos ready for school AND get the fall/holiday designs & selections up & running!! This is a good thing… LOTS of new stuff & designs are in the wings… can’t WAIT to share!!!!

There’s a chance – if I can cross off all my “to-do’s” which are infinitely long – I will reopen before the 13th. I will still enable the shopping cart but orders will be delayed in shipping out until after the 13th. If you need something during that time, please do email me… this iPhone has not allowed me to break away from work at all… So… that’s that!

I have always wanted to post pictures of every item that leaves my office… I just absolutely stink at taking pics! I am too hurried to get everything out of the door and to the post office, I never have time to snap pics. I have often saved images of the files I am working on but if I tried to save a pic of every single cup insert or cup that went out of here, my computer would surely blow up! So, I am going to attempt to start blogging again showing you pics of what stuff looks like around here before it leaves. I just couldn’t wait a minute longer to upload the new Spring Splash for the website. Even though temps have been in the 30’s and 40’s around here lately, I can only DREAM of the sunshine on my face! It’s been quite pretty the last few days but I am still just waiting for those 80 degree temps that I adore!

So, the new designs are here. Things are going in a little different direction around here… trying to keep it fresh & I felt like offering things in a little different format than usual. These designs can be put on anything in the store… I will upload each individual design in the Easter category but if the placemat item is what you want but in a plate format, just indicate that in the personalization space within the product listing. It’s easy! Also, when entering the design choice, please indicate, “Zach chick” or “Walker hat” so I’ll know exactly what you want. Get it? Good…

Favor Bags have made it to the store as well! These have been on the back burner for quite some time and I am happy to add them to the site. The toppers are 5 inches by 5 inches and cover 2 1/2 inches on each side of the favor bag. Priced at $1.00 each, they make a great time saver for your party planning. With Groundhog’s Day just a week away, I have been feeling the Spring Fever coming about…

I am excited to add these wonderful water bottles to the site! They’ve been making in my kids’ school bags this school year but I’ve been waiting for the right time to add them to the product offerings. They come in either white or silver and make for a great thermos for school!

I have put together some designs to choose from but as always, custom designs are welcome! All you have to do is enter the design name you want (if it’s already on the site) in the box provided, and that’s it! Or you can design your own – entered the same way.

Thursday, September 10 - Follow up visit to Pediatrician – sent to surgeon to remove the foreign body since the foot is hurting him so badly he can’t even walk – surgery scheduled for Friday, 1 pm

IT’S OUT! & look at the size of the thing!!! Thank goodness I was able to get the “tree” out of his foot w/out needing surgery or general anesthesia.. YAY!!

And this concludes, “An injury in pictures.” BTW – this was what was LEFT of what went into his foot. Daddy removed a piece of wood that was three times this size!!!

Thanks for your patience during this trying time for my little man. I am happy to report he’s back in school wetting his pants & pooping all the way to the bathroom – waiting for me to get the, “Mrs. Burg, Evan needs to be changed” message. OH what joy!

So this Labor Day weekend I am working on a punch list of sorts – things that have been lingering around this office. One thing on that list is to sort through show orders to get a mailing list together.

I have Emma Kate pulling show orders that have wanted to be added to said list since I started doing shows back in October of 2007. That lead me to looking at the order numbers on the forms – dear, Lord! In less than 2 years, I have designed & processed over 7500 orders! I could not believe my eyes when I punched the numbers into the calculator.

I wanted to make a quick post about production time right now. I am in the hospital w kid 3. He's got a piece of wood stuck in his foot and is in IV antibiotics and has been since tuesday night. We hope to be going home soon but please expect delays in turnaround time until we get back and settled. I have always gotten custom order requests – from wanting to see a different sticker design, to wanting a custom pillowcase – this has been a constant around here. I have put up a form on the site for these requests since they are very hard to keep track of when sent via email or via phone. So, one way or another I am determined to stay on top of things & keep organized!

Hope ya’ll can find this easy to use & apply it to any product that’s on the site or if there’s a product that you’d like to see added – something you’ve seen that you know comes from us but isn’t on the site yet (cutting boards, aluminum sports bottles, beach towels…get it?). There’s no payment requested for this service but fees may apply depending on the detail.

is almost OVER! Thank goodness as it was purely hectic & insane … perhaps the most insane month of my whole entire motherhood existence of almost 9 years.

As I reflect over the past 6 months, I realize:

sales are DOWN 18% (waah) compared to 2008 BUT they are UP 150% compared to 2007 (gotta find that silver lining!)
I have done more for my kids in the past month than my business
I still haven’t found the balance I’ve been looking for in managing this business & family life

these are the small version which is 12 x 8 & sell for $34. the larger version is 16 x 12 & sells for $40. these make great wedding gifts as well as housewarming gifts! even college kids moving into their first pad would love these :) i know my old roomie would have loved to have had one, considering she did cook almost every night in our apartment!!

Sure is… starting Friday, kids will be running around here while I desperately try to get orders done, pick up after them, do laundry, attempt to put food on the table and get my business out of this house! I secretly wish we had a couple more weeks for me to get things straight around here!

Since April 1st, I have processed, designed, produced, packed & shipped over 5,000 items for Mother’s Day, Graduation Gifts, Teacher Gifts, end of the year kids gifts and even a few “missed Christmas gifts” if you can believe that! Over 300 orders in less than 2 months … worn out!! But grateful :)

A new little addition that was introduced at the latest show – went over pretty well. Very cute size & presentation. Hope you like the new Baby Sippy – available in blue or pink. Same process – pick your pattern, font & you’ve got a custom product for a dirt cheap price :)

Emma Kate had her 7th birthday party this past Saturday – an American Idol meets Dancing with the Stars them – it was a hit! She had a blast & her friends did as well :) I still have to upload the pics from the party but for now you’ll have to take my word for it! It was fun!

So, last night I had so much to do as part of what I call my Mother’s Day & Party Central recovery, I was up until 5 a.m. First I was processing, printing & packing orders until 3:30’ish. Then I decided that I would just stay up to finish up laundry, pack the lunches, set the coffee & do the general morning duties. Jeff was nice enough to let me sleep in after I told him I had just fallen asleep when Ev woke up at 7. So, my sleep-in morning lasted till about 9:30 & then I was non-stop from that point on. It’s time to call it a night though b/c I am pretty tired…

This weekend is another tradeshow that will last through Tuesday of next week. Please keep that in mind when ordering – orders will be processed during that time but will not ship until after the show is over. This will apply starting this Thursday, May 14th.

I need to find a way to do previews for the pens & drinkware & stuff that I don’t have time to photograph… I did a few really cute pens & memo holders today but of course, I have nothing to show for them b/c I absolutely do not have time to take pics let alone edit them, since my picture taking skills are the pits.

So, I guess you will just have to settle for nothing on those products for now – until I spend the $15 grand I was quoted over the weekend for a previewing website… ((geez!!)) I guess that’s what I get for having too many choices :)

As things wind down this week, the silence to come will be deafening for sure… but much needed! When the two year old says to you, “Mom, I see Ms. Amy now” you know it’s time to be back in the swing of school days.

We’ve been enjoying our wonderful Nanny’s Wii… so much that Dad now wants one. Geez… I think I’ve convinced the kids to tap in to the “Disney jar” that we forgot to cash in for our most recent trip to buy the said Wii – what’cha think? I think it’s fair game since the Bippity Boppity Boutique came out of my pocket this year. As did all the junk purchases & game room (thanks to Gramma).

While the kids (older 2) enjoyed the Zephyr’s Baseball game, I stayed home to work… yeah!

I did get a much needed email, though… thanks Jill ;)

I have been working on a more organized collaboration of my icons & fonts. Of course, there are way more options than what I actually post on the website but this is a good sampling. The icons are an ongoing project so keep checking back to see what's new in that section. So far I have uploaded the critters & cuties to the icons link but there's much more where that came from.

Also, I have added a bunch of new fonts that I have been using lately (I have over 1500 fonts on my machine!) but you will probably see more fonts being used in different products on the site.

I’ve been really, really bored with my site design so I spent the better half of this afternoon ~~neglecting my children~~ redoing the site & blog. Hope you like! The functionality is still the same which I am definitely working on improving but at least it’s nicer to look at. I think it reflects more of my style of work so that’s a good thing!

Spring Break is in full swing around here {as is a stupid sore throat for me!} so please be patient as I am in between my office, the laundry room, the living room, backyard, playing referee, the list goes on!
